\nAtropine Sulfate BP 0.6mg\/1mg
\nWater for Injection BP q.s.<\/p>\n

CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY<\/h4>\n

Pharmacodynamic properties
\nPharmacotherapeutic group: Anticholinergic agents.
\nATC code: A03BA01.
\nMechanism of action
\nAtropine is an antimuscarinic agent which competitively antagonizes acetylcholine at
\npostganglionic nerve endings, thus affecting receptors of the exocrine glands, smooth muscle,
\ncardiac muscle and the central nervous system.
\nPharmacodynamic effects
\nPeripheral effects include tachycardia, decreased production of saliva, sweat, bronchial, nasal,
\nlachrymal and gastric secretions, decreased intestinal motility and inhibition of micturition.
\nAtropine increases sinus rate and sinoatrial and AV conduction. Usually heart rate is increased
\nbut there may be an initial bradycardia.
\nAtropine inhibits secretions throughout the respiratory tract and relaxes bronchial smooth muscle
\nproducing bronchodilatation.
